Family Law

When your relationship ends it can be a time of great distress and confusion. Among all the emotions you will have lots of questions – will I be able to keep the house? How will I pay the bills? What about the children? We can help by providing straightforward, practical legal advice, answering those immediate questions and then helping you with your longer term decisions.

We understand that times of family breakdown are difficult enough and aim to provide an approachable, understanding service, where you should always feel you can contact us and ask questions. All the staff in our family department are trained to deal with your case in a professional and sympathetic manner.

Here at KS and C we take a non-confrontational approach to family cases. Whilst we will always act swiftly and decisively to protect your interests, taking emergency action where necessary, we believe that most cases are dealt with most effectively by encouraging negotiation and agreement. We subscribe to the Resolution Code of Conduct, which promotes an approach to family law that is sensitive, constructive, cost-effective and most likely to result in an agreement.

With this in mind, alongside our family department we also offer Family Mediation

These are some of the areas in which we can help you:

Children cases – Contact and residence

Financial disputes

Care proceedings and Local Authority cases

Domestic Violence – Injunctions

Living Together Agreements

We understand that cost will be one of your worries when consulting a family lawyer. We will always give you full information about our fees before we take on your case and once it is underway we will send you regular costs updates. We will always keep your costs to the minimum while protecting your interests and will agree with you in advance what work we carry out for you.

We have a competitively priced range of Fixed Fee packages available or you may prefer to instruct us on an hourly fee basis. Whatever you choose we can agree instalment plans with you to help spread the cost.

Legal Aid is still available for some areas of family law, including Domestic Violence cases (Injunctions), to support family mediation and in some cases of Public Law involving the Local Authority (Care cases). Legal Aid will be subject to an assessment of your financial circumstances but we will always consider whether Legal Aid is available for your case and if so help you to apply.
